Damn. It seems Dennis Ritchie passed away the other day.

The UNIX Quote
Date: 2011-10-29 09:31 am (UTC)I remember hearing (or reading) the UNIX quote sometime ago ...
Never really thought "Who said it first" or who said it at all.
Just reacted to it as knowing about several programming languages (UNIX not one of them) and they were getting more complex as time goes on, in the hopes of making it easier for the programmer. With their list of commands and properties. But it may soon take a genius to be able to read or write a program in the new and up coming programming language(s).
Where did the 'getting easier for the programmer' idea go?
Many of the programming languages have similar commands. And, of course, a bunch of commands that look like gibberish ... until you learn what it means.
