Here's the second part, folks, on time and everything. Enjoy! -Scott

Shifters live in infinity; the steppes of Eurasia just make endlessness visible. Here a biplane rests upon the grass, made tiny by comparison. Rolling grasslands stretch away into the distance as far as the eye can see.

From the air the horizon is far away, letting a pilot see for miles -- although in this case the miles are mostly empty and covered in grass. From ground level the aviatrix sees rather less and, worse, is not going anywhere.

How long the plane has been here is unclear. Currently a woman is deeply involved with the landing gear, her hands greasy and her language unprintable. She’s clad in leather flying gear, goggles, and scarf. She’s Jenny Everywhere, the Shifter, dimension traveler and stunt pilot.

Nearby, as distances are counted on the steppes, rainbows ripple through the empty air and give forth a woman. Her first acts in the world are to look about and stride confidently toward the biplane. Her long coat and scarf wave dramatically as she walks. She’s Jenny Everywhere, the Shifter, dimension traveler and musical connoisseur.

“Hello, Jenny!”, she calls as she approaches, looking over the biplane.

She recognized it instantly; she knew every inch of that model. It was an Everywhere Explorer, one of the JN-EX series designed for certain very special customers, modeled off the classic JN-4 and modified for the unusual needs of dimension travellers. The landing gear shocks marked it as one from the block of two hundred built by Boeing Luftwerks in the 2060s; they gave much better shock absorption and rough field handling but were kind of a maintenance hassle.

She’d dreamed about being on the design team, along with dozens of other Jennies.

She’d never actually seen one with her own eyes before.

“Yo, Jenny! Nice to see me!” The woman grinned, looking up from her tinkering.

The new arrival returned her smile and shrugged.

“Looks like you’ve got some work to do.”

“It’s not that bad; I’ve already got the snapped bracing wires restrung. Popped a wheel bracket when I landed though, and I don’t have everything I want in the tool box.”

“I know,” said the Jenny in the long coat, digging a paper bag out of one of her pockets. It clinked metallically as she laid it on the ground next to the mechanic. “I brought you a dozen 13mm bolts and nuts, for spares. A 13mm combination ratchet and a crescent wrench too, just in case. And a new roll of duct tape, since you’re almost out and I was going to the hardware store anyway.”

“Oh,” Jenny said, looking at the bag. “That’s… exactly what I need.”

“Yeah. You know how it goes, what one of us knows, any of us can know. But I cheated and asked an oracle this morning.”

“So why me? I mean, I’m happy not to walk out of here…”

Jenny shrugged.

“Why not you? Why not me? We’re all Jenny Everywhere. Today you happened to need a wrench and I happened to be near a hardware store.”

“I won’t complain. Now that I’ve got the right bolts and a wrench I can be back in the air in ten minutes.”

“That’s one good deed to cross off my list.” She showed off a piece of paper. “I’ve got more errands to do today.”

Jenny Everywhere grinned up at Jenny Everywhere.

“Want a ride?”
